1962 Fender Jazzmaster Pre-CBS Vintage Offset Guitar Black + Headstock w/ Case

1962 Fender Jazzmaster Pre-CBS Vintage Offset Guitar Black + Headstock w/ Case

Up for sale, a 1962 Fender Jazzmaster in excellent condition and in perfect working order, complete with a vintage hardshell case. Featuring a refinish and relic in Black nitro lacquer over Desert Sand courtesy of Carson Hess, this Jazzmaster is a stunner with a dark Brazilian rosewood fretboard, loaded with all original electronics and outfitted with a Mastery bridge.

Weighing only 7lbs 13oz and well-balanced on a strap, this Jazzmaser has a bold, balanced and ringing acoustic voice, aided by the sustain of the Mastery bridge. The black bobbin single coils both retain their original windings, metering at 8.45k ohms in the bridge position and 8.55k at the neck. The bridge pickup offers snarl and snap, particularly round and full-sounding for the bridge position. With both pickups engaged the sound has a dry, sparkling cut that’s great for rhythm work, and the neck position is in a word: burly. Woody and powerful, the neck pickup can deliver a clear chop while also being particularly fat. And flipping on the Rhythm Circuit yields extra velvet-y warmth. Professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, where we specialize in Fender Offset instruments, this Jazzmaster has been dialed in with 11-49 roundwound strings, low action, and accurate intonation.

Neck Specs:

-Wood: Maple
-Shape: Slender C, measuring .820” 1st fret, .975” 12th fret
-Fretboard: Brazilian rosewood, 7 1/4” radius, clay dot inlay
-Frets: Slender (original), moderate wear beneath the plain strings on frets 1-4 with lighter wear until fret 11
-Scale Length: 25 1/2”
-Nut: 1.645"
-Tuners: Kluson-style (aged, modern)
-Serialization: Neck plate, pre-L
-Factory Markings: October, 1962 heel stamp

Body Specs:

-Wood: Alder
-Pickups: Black bobbin single coil x2 (Bridge: 8.45k, Neck: 8.55k)
-Harness: Stackpole pots in Lead Circuit date to 1960 and 45th week of '62 (both original)
-Controls: Volume x2, Tone x2 (Rhythm/Lead circuits), Three-way pickup selector
-Hardware: Vibrato, Master M1 bridge (replacement)
-Plastics: Wide bevel mint green nitrate pickguard, pickup covers, knobs + switch tip
-Factory Markings: 10/62 grease pencil date in bridge pickup cavity

This Jazzmaster features much of its original plastics and hardware, with the stock vibrato tailpiece and arm, serialized neck plate, pickup covers and knobs. The Mastery M1 bridge is a welcome upgrade on any Offset, and plastics include a vintage-spec aged modern wide bevel nitrate mint green pickguard.

The Black over Desert Sand nitro lacquer refinish has been gently relic’d by Carson Hess, with simulated marks of wear and horizontal lacquer checking, and the original body contours are very faithfully retained. The original lacquer on the neck profile carve is largely worn to a “barely there” satin, with clear overspray on the back of the peghead and new lacquer to match the body on the headstock face, complete with “clipped” Fender decal.

A vintage, circa-1967 Fender black tolex hardshell case is included.
