1966 Gretsch Tennessean 6119 Vintage Hollowbody Dark Cherry w/ HiLoTron, Case
1966 Gretsch Tennessean 6119 Vintage Hollowbody Dark Cherry w/ HiLoTron, Case
Up for sale, a 1966 Gretsch Chet Atkins Tennessean 6119 in excellent condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case. Perhaps best known for its regular use by George Harrison throughout the Beatles' career, the Tennessean features a thinline all maple body with simulated F-holes, a Dark Cherry Walnut Stain nitro lacquer finish, and a pair of Hilo'Tron pickups.
Hilo'Trons are essentially a single coil version of the Filter'Tron, known for their shimmering highs, mellow lows, and lively response. The instrument has a bold acoustic voice that's both smooth and present, and these pickups compliment the guitar's acoustic properties, with incredible clarity and top end chime. Produced at the very end of the Pre-Baldwin era of manufacturing when production totals were smaller and quality generally higher, this guitar is lightweight at 7lbs 1oz. This Chet Atkins Tennessean 6119 has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 11-49 roundwound strings, easy-playing action and accurate intonation.

The original binding is notable for its preservation with relatively minimal checking and chipping, and all binding has been stabilized. There is a small area of finish wear on top where the bridge sat previously, and wear on the Dark Cherry Walnut Stain lacquer finish is otherwise limited to minor nicks and scuffs from use and an area of shallow buckle wear central to the back. The gloss on the neck profile is smooth and clean with some shallow wear that doesn’t distract the palm.
The original gray hardshell case with gray leather trim is included; the original handle is intact and all of the latches are functional save for the locking central latch.
