2011 Sola Sound Professional MKII Tone Bender David Main DAM, Mint w/ Box, OC84 Germanium

2011 Sola Sound Professional MKII Tone Bender David Main DAM, Mint w/ Box, OC84 Germanium

Up for sale, a 2011 Sola Sound Professional MKII Tone Bender in mint condition, complete with the original box and paperwork. An early example of the collaboration between D*A*M Stompboxes’ David Main and Macari’s in the UK, this Tone Bender was distributed exclusively through Macari’s Musical Instruments (home of Colorsound) and currently has a multi-year wait list.

Widely considered one of the most important stompboxes of all time, the original Gary Hurst-designed MKII Tone Bender is most famously associated with Jimmy Page, who received one just prior to the recording of Led Zeppelin 1. It’s an immediately recognizable fuzz tone, with ample aggressive bite and headroom, ranging from thin buzzsaw sizzle to churning, bass-rich destruction with a turn of the Attack knob.

The circuit, crafted by master pedal builder David Main of D*A*M Stompboxes in South Yorkshire, features three Mullard OC84 Germanium transistors, hand-wired on perfboard, with Cliff jacks and vintage-spec components throughout. To dial in the perfect, vintage-accurate sound, thousands of transistors are tested, with only 20% ever making it into the circuits. The graphics are also hyper-accurate, recreated down to the millimeter and painstakingly painted. The interior of the serialized baseplate retains David Main’s signature.

The original box is included, along with the factory paperwork, dated to May, 2011 and signed by Anthony and Steve Macari.
