1971 Gibson SG Special Vintage Guitar Cherry w/ P-90s, Case

1971 Gibson SG Special Vintage Guitar Cherry w/ P-90s, Case

Up for sale, a 1971 Gibson SG Special in excellent condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case. Produced just months prior to Gibson’s brief discontinuation of the Special model, this SG features a pair of P90 pickups (subsequently replaced by mini humbuckers after resurfacing in ‘72), and a gloss Cherry nitro lacquer finish.

Featuring solid Honduran mahogany construction with a bound rosewood fretboard, this SG is acoustically rich and lively, lightweight at 7lbs 8oz. The clear bobbin P-90 pickups are powerful and dynamic, both retaining their original windings and metering at 8.1k ohms in the bridge position and 8.3k at the neck. The bridge pickup is muscular and bouncy, with plenty of low end growl. The neck pickup is sweet and articulate, with a harmonically complex midrange and almost piano-like ringing quality. This SG Special has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and accurate intonation.
