1974 Greco S-55 Vintage Hollowbody Guitar ES-175-Spec Sunburst w/ Embossed Pickups & Case, Japan Fujigen
The instrument has a warm, broad natural acoustic quality, and the Maxon “High Sensitivity” humbuckers are wound in the vein of the original PAF. Notes are sweet and bold, with great clarity and a touch of growl in the bridge position, and lots of breadth when flipped to the neck position humbucker, perfect for smooth, mellow Jazz tonalities. This S-55 is featherweight at 6lbs 12oz, benefitting from a professional setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 11-49 roundwound strings, low action, and accurate intonation.
Neck Specs:
-Wood: Maple (three-piece)
-Shape: Soft V, measuring .830” 1st fret, .895” 9th fret
-Fretboard: Ebony, split parallelogram inlay
-Frets: Medium jumbo, no wear
-Scale Length: 24 3/4”
-Nut: 1 9/16”, bone
-Tuners: Star
Body Specs:
-Wood: Spruce (top), Maple
-Pickups: Maxon “High Sensitivity” humbucker x2 (1974 date stamps on baseplates)
-Controls: Volume x2, Tone x2, Three-way pickup selector
-Hardware: Nashville-style bridge with rosewood base, zig-zag trapeze tailpiece, “Greco”-stamped pickup covers
-Plastics: Witch hat knobs, four-ply pickguard
Exceedingly well-kept for over 50 years, the gloss Sunburst exhibits only limited checking along the binding, with wear restrained to just a few small nicks on the body as a whole. The gloss on the neck profile is smooth and clean; there are a few stable splits in the fretboard binding that are undetectable to the palm while fretting.
A hardshell case is included.
