1976 H.S. Anderson ST70 Vintage S-Style Guitar Black w/ Lindy Fralin Pickups & Tweed Case, Japan

Up for sale, a 1976 H.S. Anderson Strider model ST70 in perfect working order, complete with a hardshell case and upgraded with Lindy Fralin pickups. The H.S. stands for Mr. Hidesato Shiino, the “Japanese Leo Fender,” a critical figure in the “lawsuit era” Japanese guitar world who would go on to start ESP and had involvement in brands including Greco and Fernandes. The brand is most associated with the T-style “Mad Cat" model HS-1 played extensively by Prince, with each instrument purportedly handmade by one of only a select few craftsmen. One of which is M. Shinoda, whose signature is present in both the pickup cavity and on the neck heel on this Strider.

Tonewoods include an ash body, maple neck, and rosewood fingerboard, yielding plenty of note attack and sweet sustain. The upgraded trio of Lindy Fralin Vintage Hot single coil pickups are Fralin’s best-selling set, designed to capture that quintessential vintage Strat sound with tons of sparkle and clarity, filled out by a warm, balanced midrange. The bridge yields gutsy spank (complete with a Tele-style baseplate), the neck pickup is broad and full, and the “in-between” positions on the switch offer hollow quack. This ST70 weighs 8lbs 13oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and accurate intonation.

Neck Specs:

-Wood: Maple
-Shape: Slender C, measuring .790” 1st fret, .915” 12th fret
-Fretboard: Rosewood, dot inlay
-Frets: Slender, faint wear beneath the G and B strings on frets 1-5
-Scale Length: 25 ½”
-Nut: 1 5/8”
-Tuners: Gotoh
-Serialization: Nine-digit stamp on peghead
-Factory Markings: Neck heel dated 76.5.20, neck heel signed by M. Shindoda

Body Specs:

-Wood: Ash
-Pickups: Lindy Fralin Hot Vintage single coil x3 (replacement)
-Controls: Volume, Tone x2, Five-way pickup selector
-Harness: CTS 250k pots date to the 1st week of 2012 (replacement)
-Hardware: Strat-style tremolo with block saddles, jack cup
-Plastics: Three-ply white pickguard, black knobs/pickup covers

The body has been routed between the neck and middle pickups, shallower than the depth of the original route and preserving M. Shinoda’s signature in the neck pickup cavity. There are some small dings and finish scratches on the body, shallow buckle scuffing central to the back, and two cleanly doweled and touched-up holes above the tremolo cavity. The gloss on the neck profile has a few shallow marks that are not distracting to the palm while fretting.

A modern tweed hardshell case is included.
