1980 Yamaki The ‘78 Heritage/12 Vintage 12-String Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar w/ Case, Japan

1980 Yamaki The ‘78 Heritage/12 Vintage 12-String Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar w/ Case, Japan

Up for sale, a circa 1980 Yamaki The ‘78 Heritage/12 in excellent, 100% original condition, complete with a hardshell case. Founded in 1962 by brothers Yasuyuki and Kazuyuki Teradaira, Yamaki Guitars were best known for producing high-quality instruments that served as affordable high-end alternatives to Martin acoustics, crafted in Japan and distributed exclusively by Daion Co., LTD. This guitar is an uncommon example, featuring premium touches including a brass nut and bridge saddle, brass dot inlays along the fretboard, maple soundhole purfling and body binding, and a gloss antique Mahogany finish.

Weighing 4lbs 14oz, tonewoods include a solid cedar top, ovangkol back and sides, nato neck, and a rosewood fingerboard and bridge. Ovangkol pairs the rich warmth of rosewood with the full midrange of mahogany: the low end is bold and brassy, and the trebles are punchy and sonorous. Complex and lively with plenty of projection on tap, the sound is bright yet full. This “The ‘78 Heritage/12” benefits from a professional setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with bronze strings and easy-playing action.

Neck Specs:

-Wood: Nato
-Shape: Full C, measuring .960” 1st fret, 1.035” 9th fret
-Fretboard: Rosewood, brass dot inlays
-Frets: Medium jumbo, no wear
-Scale Length: 25 ½”
-Nut: 1 ⅞”, brass

Body Specs:

-Wood: Cedar, ovangkol
-Bracing: X
-Bridge: Rosewood, brass saddle, rosewood bridge pins
-Marquetry: One-ply maple rosette and binding

The gloss handstained antique Mahogany finish is exceptionally clean, with just a couple minor nicks and faint finish scratches in the clear coat on the body. The smooth gloss on the neck profile is flawless.
