1985 Fernandes X-1 Neck Through Explorer Vintage Guitar White, Japan EX-85

1985 Fernandes X-1 Neck Through Explorer Vintage Guitar White, Japan EX-85

Up for sale, a 1985 Fernandes X-1 in excellent condition and in perfect working order. While sparingly little is known about this rare instrument, with few examples known to exist, the short-lived X-1 was manufactured by Fernandes in Japan for the US domestic market. Dating to a period of production where Fernandes was endorsed by Brad Gillis of Night Ranger, this X-1 is essentially a hardtail version of the EX-85, featuring neck-through construction, lightning bolt inlays and gold-plated brass hardware.

The pair of humbuckers are wound hot, metering at 15k ohms in both positions. These potent pickups provide plenty of power and punch, maintaining a tight and crisp sound in high gain situations, due in part to the solid brass bridge. This X-1 weighs only 6lbs 15oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and accurate intonation.

Neck Specs:

-Wood: Maple
-Shape: Medium D, measuring .825” 1st fret, .880” 12th fret
-Fretboard: Rosewood, pearloid lightning bolt inlay
-Frets: Medium jumbo, leveled/crowned, no wear
-Scale Length: 25”
-Nut: 1.650” (42mm)
-Tuners: Gotoh
-Headstock: Unique tip shape for USA market distribution
-Markings: “Rock Guaranteed” decal on back of peghead

Body Specs:

-Pickups: Humbucker x2 (15k ohms)

-Harness: Full-size 500k pots (one replacement)
-Hardware: Brass bridge with block saddles, dome-top knurled knobs/pickup surrounds

The gloss White finish exhibits subtle yellowing of the clear coat, with some wear on top from wrist jewelry, finish checking at the heel-less neck contour, faint buckle worming on the bass-side of the back, and a few additional minor marks. The gloss on the neck profile is smooth and clean, with only a couple shallow marks.

A gigbag is included.
