1985 Ibanez Musician MC824 Vintage Neck Through Bass, 100% Original w/ J6 Humbuckers & Duo Sound Taps
Up for sale, a 1985 Ibanez Musician MC824 in excellent, 100% original condition and in perfect working order. Produced from 1979-87, the Ibanez Musician basses were known for their top-notch quality, used by artists including Sting, U2’s Adam Clayton, and Fleetwood Mac’s John McVie. This MC824 is one of the rarest versions, produced at the very tail end of the model’s original run from 1985-86, features a full 34” scale length, neck-through construction, Dark Stain finish, and a pair of J6 pickups with a three-knob configuration (Blend, Volume, Tone) and push/push Duo Sound switches.
The neck-through construction comprises three pieces of maple reinforced with strips of walnut, and the ash body wings sandwich a core of mahogany for a very complex and rich tone. Weighing 9lbs 9oz, the bass has healthy sustain with thick low end, offering both ample growl and broad thump. The commanding, detailed natural properties of this bass translate well through the pickup pair: the J6 humbuckers are big and full-bodied, with more top-end presence and punch at the bridge and a robust breadth at the neck.
