1988 Guild D-60 NT Vintage Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar, Near-Mint w/ Case, Westerly

1988 Guild D-60 NT Vintage Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar, Near-Mint w/ Case, Westerly

Up for sale, a 1988 Guild D-60 in near-mint condition, complete with the original hardshell case. The premiere Guild dreadnought model during its short production window (1987-90) at the Westerly, RI factory, the D-60 was also manufactured in limited quantities, with just over 300 made across its production run. Most prominently associated with Johnny Cash, a Sunburst-finished D-60 was used extensively by Cash towards the end of his career. The D-60 is also notable for being one of the last guitars designed by (or at least with significant input from) George Gruhn, who is responsible for this dreadnought sporting forward-shifted, hand-scalloped bracing, allowing the soundboard to resonate with a temerity seen on virtually no other concurrently produced Guilds (and very few ‘80s/‘90s acoustics of any kind, for that matter).

Tonewoods include a AAAA Sitka spruce top, East Indian rosewood back/sides, mahogany neck, and bound ebony fingerboard. The dreadnought body shape has a distinctive brilliance and woody, percussive cut, and the forward-shifted scalloped bracing on this D-60 results in an instrument that kicks like a mule in the bass register. There’s an overarching sweetness to the sound, with excellent string-to-string balance and trebles that have ample body and presence. Weighing 5lbs 5oz, this D-60 has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 12-53 bronze strings and easy-playing action.
