1989 Gibson ES-175 Sunburst w/ Mahogany Back/Sides, 100% Original w/ Case & Hangtag

1989 Gibson ES-175 Sunburst w/ Mahogany Back/Sides, 100% Original w/ Case & Hangtag

Up for sale, a 1989 Gibson ES-175 in near-mint, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case and hangtags. First offered by Gibson in 1949, this ES-175 comes from an increasingly heralded era of Gibson production colloquially known as the “good wood” era. This particular Gibson is an uncommon example, featuring mahogany back and sides (instead of the usual maple); Gibson briefly implemented mahogany for the back/sides of the ES-175 model in 1983 before shifting back to all-maple construction in 1990.

Weighing 7lbs 5oz, this ES-175 offers a bold natural acoustic tone with plenty of midrange warmth and smooth growl courtesy of the mahogany back/sides. The fully hollow construction offers plenty of bass register richness and bloom balanced by the treble snap of the maple top. Loaded with a very early pair of Gibson’s 490R and 490T humbuckers, these pickups cover ample tonal ground, delivering everything from harmonic rich upper midrange cut in the bridge position to jazz-worthy fullness and percussive cut with the neck pickup singled out. This ES-175 has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 11-49 strings, low action, and accurate intonation.
