1996 Collings OM1, Spruce + Mahogany & 1 3/4" Nut w/ Case
As per all Collings instruments, all woods are acquired, acclimated, and hand-selected by the master luthiers at Collings, and each component is picked with the "whole tonality of the end instrument in mind." This Collings features a Sitka spruce top, Honduran mahogany back/sides/neck, and ebony fingerboard. The OM1 is prized by fingerpickers for its responsive feel, clarity, and even-tempered response, with equal presence and brilliance in all registers. There’s plenty of projection on tap for bigger strums, and this OM1 is vital and full-bodied with dense harmonic overtones and a potency belied by its relatively compact dimensions. Weighing 3lbs 15oz, this OM1 has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 12-53 bronze strings and easy-playing action.
Neck Specs:
-Wood: Honduran Mahogany
-Shape: Modified V, measuring .830” 1st fret, .915” 9th fret
-Fretboard: Ebony, 14”-26” compound radius, MOP dot inlays
-Frets: Slender, no wear
-Scale Length: 25 1/2”
-Nut: 1 3/4”, bone
-Tuners: Waverly open-gear, butterbean buttons
-Joint: Mortise and tenon hybrid
Body Specs:
-Wood: Sitka Spruce, Honduran Mahogany
-Bracing: Pre-Way-style scalloped X (no tongue brace)
-Bridge: Ebony belly, compensated bone saddle
-Marquetry: Tortoise binding, multi-ply purfling, simple rosette
-Label: Bill Collings’ signed
This is an extremely clean, well-kept example, especially for a guitar celebrating its 30th birthday, with cosmetic wear on the gloss nitro lacquer finish limited to a few tiny nicks on top and back at the lower bout. The nitro gloss on the neck profile is smooth and clean.
The original hardshell case is included.
