2000s Mosrite USA Mark I 1964 Custom Ventures Model Bass Sunburst w/ Vintage Case, Fillmore Japan

Up for sale, a 2000s Mosrite USA Mark I 1964 Custom Ventures Model bass in excellent condition and in perfect working order, complete with a genuine 1960s Mosrite hardshell case. With an extremely rare factory three knob configuration, this Ventures Model bass was produced by Mosrite's official licensee, Fillmore, produced in much smaller quantities than their highly sought after Ventures Model guitars.

Few instruments have a more storied history than the Mosrite brand, especially in the modern era. Perhaps best known for being imported to the USA by Ed Roman and also for their partnership with Dana Moseley, Mosrite founder Semie Moseley's daughter, Fillmore purported that these instruments were "USA-made" (whether this referred to components and/or assembly is a real gray area), yet this instrument's origin is definitively with the Fillmore factory in Japan. Most importantly, this Mosrite is an extremely finely crafted instrument, worthy of Semie Moseley's legacy, and Fillmore's Mosrites are among the closest ever offered to early '60s spec in their tonal response and features, with tight tolerances and exquisite fit and finish work.

A short scale affair with a 30 1/2" scale length, this Mosrite is strung with 45-100 D'addario Chromes flatwound strings, and the basswood body (just like the original '60 Ventures Models) offers a smooth, even-sounding tonal platform for the pair of single coil pickups. Upgraded from stock, the pickups are a pair of Kyo-up Wood Bird's vintage spec Mosrite single coils with Alnico V magnets, metering at 12k ohms. Delivering growl and round punch, the pickups offer a bold and detailed tonal response. And with dedicated Volume knobs for each pickup, this bass has a distinct ability to blend the sounds of each pickup in unique ways not possible with most Mosrite basses. This Mosrite weighs 9lbs 7oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with easy-playing action and accurate intonation.

The body sports a distinctive German carve, and this bass is extremely well-kept, with cosmetic wear on the gloss Sunburst finish limited to buckle rash central to the back upper bout, resulting in one concentrated area of finish loss, and a few minor marks on the rest of the body. The gloss on the neck profile is flawless.
