Set apart from most standard tube-powered distortion pedals that use a 12AX7 triode tube to produce their distortion effects, the S.A.S. is unique in that it houses an EF86 pentode tube at its center, resulting in authentic amp distortion sounds rivaling that of a genuine vintage tube amp. And while most distortion pedals operate at low voltages, the high-voltage pentode tube design of the S.A.S. paired with a high gain distortion stage yields superior dynamic response, maximizing note clarity and allowing subtle harmonics to really shine through complex chord patterns. The intuitive interface comprises a simple trio of Volume, Bias, and Gain knobs, with the Bias control producing smooth, glassy cleans when scaled back to “Bliss” and rich, sizzling crunch when cranked up to “Pissed.”
