1963 Fender Deluxe Non-Reverb Black Panel Pre-CBS Tube Amp w/ Vintage Tube Set, Jensen C12Q

1963 Fender Deluxe Non-Reverb Black Panel Pre-CBS Tube Amp w/ Vintage Tube Set, Jensen C12Q

Up for sale, a 1963 Fender Deluxe in perfect working order, outfitted with a complete vintage tube set, boasting Amperex, RCA and Tung Sol valves. One of the very first Black Panel Deluxe amps to roll off Fender's assembly line, the complete suite of source date codes on the components range from early to mid-1963. Benefiting from a thorough checkup by our techs here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar to ensure optimal performance, this amp is stage and studio ready, boasting the model's earliest features with a no-logo grill and "Fender Elect. Inst. Co." text on the faceplate.

This amp has notable headroom, something that sets it apart from its reverb-equipped brother. Since the addition of the reverb effect into the Fender circuit adds another gain stage, the non-reverb Deluxe really stands out as Fender's premier 1x12 Black Panel combo amp, with incredible warmth and clarity. Perfect as a platform for pedals and an ideal amp for studio use, this Deluxe captures the quintessential Fender clean sound, with smooth tube overdrive and a hint of compression at higher volumes. The tremolo has a strong, even pulse as well, with a wide range of speeds.

The circuit is extremely original and serviced as needed to maintain optimal performance. The original Schumacher-made transformers are all present, with source date codes spanning the 12th to 25th weeks of '63. The preamp retains all of the original blue molded Ajax capacitors, essential to the rich, musical quality of the Black Panel-era circuits. The CTS pots have visible date codes from the 34th week of '63, and the power supply has been recapped with high quality F&Ts. The smaller electrolytic caps in the preamp have also been upgraded with Spragues. A modern three-prong power cable has been installed for safety's sake. The tube set is comprised of all vintage valves, with an Amperex 5AR4 rectifier, matched pair of RCA 6V6s, and Tung Sol and RCA tubes in the preamp.

The speaker is a vintage Jensen C12Q, factory spec for this model yet a more recent substitution, with the stamp on the edge of the frame dating to the 33rd week of '68. The tube chart inside the cabinet is partially intact, noting the AA763 circuit.

The original smooth black tolex shows modest wear, most prominent at the corners and edges, and there are a few small tears in the original silver sparkle grillcloth. The faceplate presents all of the original white silkscreen lettering and its full complement of original witch hat knobs. Stock hardware includes the chassis straps, handle caps and sphinx glides (feet).
