2008 Buffalo Amplifiers Country Bison ‘55/’56 BA70 Boutique Tube Combo Amp 1x15 w/ Jensen
Up for sale, a 2008 Buffalo Amplifiers Country Bison ‘55/’56 BA70 1x15” combo amplifier in showroom-clean condition. Handcrafted in Texas by Robert Chwaliszewski, Buffalo Amplifiers was a relatively short-lived one-man boutique operation, producing some fantastically accurate vintage Gibson amplifier reproductions, with sparingly few examples known to exist. The BA70 is, as the name would suggest, Chwaliszewski’s exceedingly faithful (both inside and out) take on the legendary Gibson Country Western GA-70; this particular iteration is the 1955/’56-style circuit with paraphrase inverter and cathode bias 6L6 circuit.
The original GA-70, only produced from ‘55-’58, is widely considered one of the finest vintage Gibson circuits. Prized for its power, clear highs, tight lows, and tendency to break up early on the dial, that legendary amp delivers a rich, organic tone that Chwaliszewski describes as the “swampy ‘midnight special’ sound.” Like the original, the BA70 features a dual-channel, dual-input design, with no-frills controls (Tone and an independent Volume for each channel), yielding plug-and-play vintage magic.
Premium vintage-spec touches include custom-wound transformers and choke (cloned directly from original examples), 1 watt carbon film resistors, Sprague/Mallory 150 audio path capacitors, and Jupiter coupling capacitors. This combo is loaded with the original 50 watt Jensen P15N speaker, featuring Alnico magnet construction and delivering bright highs, edgy breakup and an aggressive midrange that pairs perfectly with the Country Bison circuit. The tube complement consists of a matched pair of JJ 6L6 GC power tubes, a vintage RCA 5V4 rectifier, and EHX preamp valves.
The cabinet is crafted from solid pine, and this BA70 is a direct aesthetic match to its original inspiration, boasting two-tone 100% cotton cloth covering, a “luggage”-style handle, and a custom Buffalo Amplifiers badge on the grillcloth. This is an exceptionally well-kept amp, with just a few minor scuffs on the enclosure. The interior of the chassis is signed by Chwaliszewski and dated 11/08.
