1990s Fender Custom Shop Tone-Master CSR-3 Blonde Piggyback Tube Amp w/ Celestions
Part vintage-inspired, part modern power and aggression, the Tone-Master CSR-3 is a two-channel (Vintage and Drive), single-input design, with a two-way Fat switch on each channel for extra midrange thickness. The clean (Vintage) channel offers great headroom before moving into creamy vintage tube breakup territory around 7 on the dial, and both channels feature a three-band EQ. The circuit is largely untouched, and the tube complement comprises a quartet of 5881 power tubes (three original Fender, one properly biased and matched Sovtek replacement) and three 12AX7 preamp valves.
The 2x12” cabinet is crafted from birch plywood with a closed-back design, loaded with a pair of Celestion G12-80 Classic Lead 12” speakers: these ceramic speakers are tight and controlled with impressive low-mid punch and aggression, and a powerful treble response that’s tempered in its highest frequencies.
Both the amp and cabinet feature rough blonde tolex, oxblood grillcloth, and flat Pre-CBS-style Fender badges. Wear is limited to a few faint stains and scuffs on both enclosures, and the graphics on the amp faceplate are pristine, with all of the original cream barrel knobs present.
