Gibson Custom Historic 1939 J-55 Reissue, Adirondack Red Spruce, Faded Vintage Sunburst

Gibson Custom Historic 1939 J-55 Reissue, Adirondack Red Spruce, Faded Vintage Sunburst

The J-55 ranks among Gibson’s more unique and rare acoustics, originally produced as one of the company’s four Jumbo models during the 1930s. Crafted at Gibson’s Bozeman, MT factory, this faithful reissue of the original features a thermally aged Adirondack red spruce top, mahogany back/sides, premium ebony fingerboard, and a long 25.5” scale length, along with distinctive inclusions like a Moustache bridge, terraced firestripe pickguard, and wide 1.77” nut width.

Weighing 4lbs 4oz, this J-55 is big and full-bodied with snappy, articulate highs, a clear midrange, and smooth, bold lows that deliver a woody, dynamic responsiveness attributable to the aged top and the traditional hand-scalloped Advanced X red spruce bracing. Very rewarding as a strummer with an ideal blend of character and power, this J-55 is also very dynamic and chiming for softer and fingerpicked applications: a true do-it-all dreadnought.
