1983 Fender '62 Stratocaster JV ST62-85 Olympic White w/ USA Fullerton Pickups, Japan MIJ Fujigen

1983 Fender '62 Stratocaster JV ST62-85 Olympic White w/ USA Fullerton Pickups, Japan MIJ Fujigen

Up for sale, a 1983 Fender Stratocaster ‘62 vintage reissue model ST62-85 in excellent condition and in perfect working order. Produced in the second year of Fender Japan production, this "Japanese Vintage" (JV) series guitar is an uncommon higher-tiered model, boasting the same black bobbin pickups and steel vibrato block used on the Fender USA Fullerton factory reissues from the same year.

This alder-bodied Strat has a balanced, lively natural acoustic quality which translates faithfully through the trio of single coils. These pickups feature staggered alnico magnets, black fiber bobbins and push-back, cloth-covered leads, delivering quintessential Strat sparkle and spank: the bridge pickup is punchy and immediate, with classic Strat quack at the “in-between” positions on the three-way pickup selector switch, and the neck pickup yields a broad, smooth sound with great clarity and sweetness. This JV-era Stratocaster ST62-85 weighs 7lbs 10oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and accurate intonation.

Neck Specs:

-Wood: Maple
-Shape: Slender C, measuring .835” 1st fret, .930” 12th fret
-Fretboard: Rosewood slab, vintage-spec 7 ¼” radius
-Frets: Slender, leveled/crowned, light wear beneath the plain strings on frets 1-10
-Scale Length: 25 ½”
-Nut: 1.650” (42mm), bone
-Tuners: Kluson-style
-Serialization: “Made in Japan” (peghead face), JV-prefix (neck plate)
-Factory Markings: Neck heel pencil dated 4-27-83, “B” stamp in neck pocket denotes model tier

Body Specs:

-Wood: Alder
-Pickups: Fullerton black bobbin single coil x3 (1982 pencil dates)
-Controls: Volume, Tone x2, Five-way pickup selector (replacement)

-Hardware: Synchronized Tremolo with steel block, jack cup
-Plastics: Three-ply white pickguard, lightly aged white knobs and pickup covers

The gloss Olympic White finish exhibits wear through to varying layers of finish on the bass-side horn and at the arm contour, with some touched-up finish chips on the lower bout perimeter. There is light buckle scuffing central to the back (largely constrained to the cavity cover) and various minor dings consistent with use, largely clustered on the lower bout. The ambered gloss on the neck profile is smooth and clean.

The original JV-era Fender Japan gigbag is included.
