1987 Fender '57 Stratocaster ST57-115 Sunburst Lacquer w/ USA Pickups & Case, Japan MIJ Fujigen

1987 Fender '57 Stratocaster ST57-115 Sunburst Lacquer w/ USA Pickups & Case, Japan MIJ Fujigen

Up for sale, a 1987 Fender ‘57 Stratocaster vintage reissue model ST57-115 in excellent, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with a hardshell case. This early “Made in Japan” Strat was produced at the Fujigen factory during the golden age of Fender Japan production, uncommon outside its country of origin. A highly desirable top-tier model, this Stratocaster easily rivaled USA production with premium, vintage-accurate touches including a nitro lacquer Sunburst finish, USA-made pickups, CTS pots, and a steel vibrato block.

Traditional tonewoods include an alder body and a one-piece flame maple neck, and this Strat has a balanced, lively natural acoustic quality. Featuring the same 57/62 black bobbin pickups seen in the early American Vintage models, these pickups feature staggered unbeveled alnico magnets and push-back cloth-covered leads. Via the three-way pickup selector, this Strat delivers a sweet sparkle at the bridge and a notably smooth treble response. There’s a woody chop on tap from the middle pickup with a fat, bell-like quality to the neck position. Weighing 7lbs 12oz, this ST57-115 has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and accurate intonation.

Neck Specs:

-Wood: Flame maple
-Shape: Medium C (verging on soft V), measuring .845” 1st fret, .955” 12th fret
-Fretboard: Maple, vintage-spec 7 ¼” radius, small chip in gloss beyond fret 21
-Frets: Slender, no wear
-Scale Length: 25 1/2”
-Nut: 1.650” (42mm), bone
-Tuners: Kluson-style, Gotoh
-Serialization: “Made in Japan,” E-prefix
-Factory Markings: Model stamps on neck heel/pocket, small blue “115” sticker on neckplate denotes model tier and price (¥115,000)

Body Specs:

-Wood: Alder
-Pickups: American Vintage 57/62 x3
-Harness: Untouched solder, CTS pots date to ‘86 and ‘87
-Controls: Volume, Tone x2, Three-way pickup selector
-Hardware: Synchronized Tremolo with steel block, jack cup
-Plastics: One-ply white pickguard, yellowed knobs/pickup covers

The gloss two-tone Sunburst nitro lacquer finish exhibits some light texturing in the clear coat on the body horns, and a couple spots of stand-related wear through the gloss along the lower bout edge. Cosmetic wear is otherwise limited to a few small dings and finish scratches. The ambered gloss on the neck profile highlights prominent flame figuring, with a small area of touched-up stand rash on the bass-side shoulder behind fret 7.

A Gator hardshell case is included.
