1987 Fender Custom Shop American Vintage '62 Stratocaster Blonde Mary Kaye w/ Gold Hardware, Case

1987 Fender Custom Shop American Vintage '62 Stratocaster Blonde Mary Kaye w/ Gold Hardware, Case

Up for sale, a 1987 Fender Custom Shop American Vintage '62 Stratocaster in excellent, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case. An extremely unique short run model, Fender's Custom Shop (founded in 1987) produced 1000 "Mary Kaye" Stratocasters between 1987-89, divided into two 500 instrument runs equally split between maple and rosewood fingerboards. Ash body construction and all gold hardware set these Mary Kaye Strats apart from the standard American Vintage line, and while Custom Shop produced, the guitars still retain the V-prefix serialization of the American Vintage instruments.

Weighing 7lbs 8oz, this guitar is lightweight for a Strat from this particular run, resonant and lively. The original trio of black bobbin alnico magnet single coils channel the midrange punch and sonic complexity of ash as a tonewood, paired with the warmth and detail of the rosewood fingerboard. Via the three-way pickup selector toggle, the guitar delivers bridge pickup spank, thinned-out quack in the "in-between" settings, and sweet, bell-like neck pickup chime. This Stratocaster has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and accurate intonation.

Neck Specs:

-Wood: Maple
-Shape: Slender C, measuring .825” 1st fret, .880” 12th fret
-Fretboard: Rosewood slab, vintage-spec 7 1/4” radius
-Frets: Slender, no wear

-Nut: 1.650” (42mm), bone

Body Specs:

-Wood: Ash

The nitro lacquer gloss Blonde finish exhibits prominent vertical checking and yellowing of the clear coat, with a few finish chips along the body perimeter and some small dings and finish scratches consistent with use. The deeply ambered nitro lacquer gloss on the neck profile shows some checking as well and just a couple shallow marks that are practically imperceptible to the palm.

The original tweed hardshell case is included.
