1986 Yamaha SG7 Blue Jeans Custom 20th Anniversary Pearl White w/ Case & Hangtags

1986 Yamaha SG7 Blue Jeans Custom 20th Anniversary Pearl White w/ Case & Hangtags

Up for sale, a 1986 Yamaha SG7 Blue Jeans Custom 20th Anniversary edition in near-mint, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hangtags, case candy, and hardshell case. Released to commemorate the highest-tier original “flying samurai” model, this SG7 sports a Pearl White finish accented by gold hardware. The first “flying samurai” guitar was designed in conjunction with Japanese surf guitar legend Takeshi Terauchi, and the original SG-5A “Blue Jeans Custom” model was only produced for one year (1967), achieving a sort of mythic status among Japanese surf guitarists that led to later reissues. Of those reissues, this is among the finest ever made, produced to celebrate the 20 year anniversary of that iconic instrument.

Tonewoods include an alder body, maple neck and bound rosewood fretboard, yielding a smooth, balanced natural acoustic tone. Tonally, the trio of single coil pickups offer bold, sparkling cleans with plenty of meat and roundness, yet clear and defined in every pickup position. The middle and bridge pickup are coupled both visually and tonally, with a blend pot for a smooth gradient between the coils. This Yamaha weighs 8lbs 8oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 11-49 strings, low action and spot-on intonation.

Neck Specs:

-Wood: Maple, light flame figuring
-Shape: Medium C, well-rounded shoulders and ideal heft, measuring .845” 1st fret, .960” 12th fret
-Fretboard: Bound rosewood, pearloid dot inlay
-Frets: Original slender fretwire, virtually no wear
-Scale Length: 24 3/4”
-Nut: 1.650 (42mm) width at zero fret
-Tuners: Yamaha-branded
-Serialization: M-prefix, dating to 1986

Body Specs:

-Pickups: Yamaha single coils x3
-Electronics: Three-way pickup selector (Bridge/Middle, Bridge/Middle + Neck, Neck), Volume, Tone, Pickup Blend
-Hardware: Bridge with roller saddles, smooth Mosrite-style knobs, Jazzmaster-style vibrato
-Plastics: Three-ply parchment pickguard

The gloss Pearl White finish has subtle metalflake, with barely a mark on the body beyond a couple faint scratches in the clear coat on the back. The smooth ambered gloss on the neck profile is immaculate, highlighting subtle flame figuring in the maple.

The original Yamaha-branded hardshell case is included with a large Yamaha badge on the lid, along with the original Japanese hangtags, factory paperwork and “Blue Jeans Custom 20th Anniversary” coily cable. A “Yamaha Blue Jeans Custom” form-fit gigbag is also included.
